VIP has over 30 years of experience in training pet/ sport dogs and 20 plus years of experience working with fearful, aggressive, and anxious dogs in both a private setting and in a high-volume shelter setting. VIP also holds the certification to evaluate for the American Kennel Club, Canine Good Citizen titles. In addition, they also hold several certifications from trainings and workshops attended on learning theory, behavior, and aggression.

Training and socialization are extremely important for a young SBT. But new owners need to understand that socialization doesn’t have to mean that everyone must touch your dog! And it doesn’t mean your dog needs to play with every dog it sees! These two things 90% of the time set your SBT up for failure right out the gait and can lead to life long behavioral issues.

The Stafford is very intelligent, learns easily, responds quickly, and can be a loving and fun companion. They have a strong desire to please their owners. However, remember that they were originally bred to a sport dog, and most have retained a strong prey drive, so watch for escalation in enthusiastic play, especially after maturity. Like all dogs, they should be trained to the basics of obedience using positive methods so that they become a well-behaved pet. It is important that from the beginning a SBT puppy receive clear, consistent, and positive training. Despite their tough outward appearance and sometimes stoic disposition, they can be quite sensitive and do not respond well to harsh training methods.
